The legal representative, prosecuting, described Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She said his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a summer program which he operated.

Ruben conducted a "treat game" with the children, the legal counsel said, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and request they to ingest treats "as fast as possible".

She told the court the defendant had played this game with the young males "repeatedly", and minors had previously fallen ill the following morning.

She explained the man had been able to explain this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had worries in recently.

Mrs Prior KC added: "In the summer" his stepson had concerns about the situation, for good reason.

"They chose" to have a look in the man's possessions."

The legal counsel stated materials including infant oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were discovered, and his stepson alerted the law enforcement about his worries.

She explained Ruben went on to conduct the "sweet game" with six boys that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the following morning.

"The police had not gone out by that time," she continued.

The oversight body, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.

Mrs Prior explained the youngsters were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the stepson notified the authorities once more.

She stated Ruben then played the "candy game" in a space of five minors.
